Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
This policy describes how we handle information when you use this website and its features (scans, maps, share images, and community feedback). It applies alongside our Terms of Service.
1. What we collect
Depending on how you use the service, we may process:
- Scan inputs and results — names you search (food, restaurants, products, media), generated scores and text, and cached copies stored on our servers so repeat lookups are faster.
- Map and location data — city searches, coordinates you allow via browser geolocation, and restaurant-related scans tied to places on the map.
- Community feedback — appeals (“wrong”), “based” votes, and notes, linked to a random client identifier stored in your browser.
- Technical data — IP address, request logs, and approximate location from our hosting provider (e.g. for coarse “near you” features), as part of normal web operation.
-
Local browser storage — session IDs, recent scan history, council
votes, and similar data kept in
localStorageon your device until you clear it. - Images you upload — if you use camera or photo scan features, image data is sent to our servers and third-party AI providers for identification and scanning.
2. How we use it
We use this information to:
- Run scans, menu breakdowns, and map features
- Cache and display results for you and other visitors
- Show aggregate community counts and admin moderation
- Improve reliability, prevent abuse, and debug errors
- Generate shareable images when you request them
We do not sell your personal information as a standalone product.
3. Third-party services
We rely on external providers (hosting, databases, AI APIs, maps/geocoding, and font delivery). Those providers process data according to their own policies when handling our requests. Scan text and images may be sent to AI vendors to produce results.
4. Retention
Cached scans and feedback may be kept indefinitely unless we delete or rotate them for operations, legal, or capacity reasons. Server logs are typically retained for a limited period. Data in your browser persists until you clear site data.
5. Your choices
- Decline browser location permission if you do not want map geolocation
- Clear site data in your browser to remove local identifiers and history
- Stop using the service at any time
Because much of the content is cached for entertainment and performance, we may not be able to remove every public scan entry on request, but you can contact us (see below) and we will try to address legitimate privacy concerns.
6. Children
The service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us so we can take appropriate steps.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical measures for a small web app, but no system is perfectly secure. Do not submit sensitive personal health records or secrets you cannot afford to expose.
8. International users
The service may be operated from the United States. If you access it from elsewhere, your data may be processed in the U.S. or where our vendors operate.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
10. Contact
For privacy questions, use the contact method published on the main site when available, or reach the operators through the same domain where you accessed this page.
